Following 10 years as a professional archaeologist in Southeast Asia, Kate now joins the Turnstone team specialising in monitoring and data management. Kate’s PhD research used small pieces of broken pottery from across an ancient industrial landscape to explore the lives of the people that lived and worked within that community. In her new role, Kate hopes to bring people, artefacts and landscapes together to better understand the people and communities of ancient Australia.
With substantial excavation experience, Kate has a strong skills-base for monitoring sub-surface cultural heritage. In addition, having developed and managed previous databases, Kate brings valuable experience to managing data in the Australian context.
Kate has travelled extensively bringing international cross-cultural experience to this role. She has lectured in archaeology at James Cook University, presented cultural heritage workshops to Southeast Asian government departments and delivered various papers in international forums. With a deep passion for preserving cultural heritage, Kate has undertaken experimental pottery workshops within the Southeast Asian context with the purpose of preserving, restoring and reviving living cultural heritage.
